Our Story
Founded in 1981, Sierra Hospice grew from volunteer roots into a trusted non-profit that supports the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients and families throughout Plumas County.
Our Beginnings
Local volunteers built home-based support and early training programs for compassionate end-of-life care in the Chester area.
Steady Growth
Program coordination expanded in 1987, continuing to develop services for rural communities with limited access to hospice support.
Non-Profit Transition
In the mid-1990s, Sierra Hospice became a 501(c)(3) organization and opened the Forget Me Not Thrift Store to sustain programs.
Today
For over 40 years, volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners have kept this legacy of compassionate care alive.
Why a Non-Profit Hospice Matters
- Patient well-being comes before financial gain
- Community investment extends beyond minimum care standards
- Transparency builds lasting trust with families
- No-cost access helps the most vulnerable households
